NEWSWAVE - Winter Warmth and Christmas Wishes
Join our reporter Tom Howe for NEWSWAVE, your weekly rundown of the top stories happening across St Austell and surrounding areas.
In the latest episode, we join Watch Manager Andy Brier and firefighter Nathan from St Austell Community Fire Station to discuss how they help keep the town safe, with advice on flooding and Home Fire Safety checks, as well as Nathan’s recent recognition for his work with a local memory café.
We check in with Church Elder Esther Baker from White River Community Church in St Austell, who tells us about their recent Christmas Hamper campaign, their Christmas Fantasia concert, and the festive events and year-round support they offer the community.
As well as that, we take a trip Cornwall Community Foundation to meet Development Director Tamara Sherston-Baker and explore their ‘Surviving Winter’ appeal - learning how it supports people across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly facing fuel poverty and rising winter costs.
We hear from Father Christmas himself, who answers children’s questions about how he gets into modern, security-conscious homes and to reassure families worried that smart locks, alarms and doorbell cameras might stop him in his tracks…
…and we welcome Jason Suckley, Chief Executive at Make-A-Wish UK, to discuss new research on Christmas generosity and to explain how the wishes they grant bring hope and joy to children and their families this festive season.
Plus, Falmouth University students Katie Winsor and Tia Boddey are here to share their thoughts on The Hall for Cornwall’s latest festive production, Aladdin, which is packed with laughs, pasties and even a touch of twerking.
