NEWSWAVE - Ships, Swimming and Shoes

CHAOS Radio

Join our reporter Tom Howe for NEWSWAVE, your weekly rundown of the top stories happening across St Austell and surrounding areas.

In the latest episode, we join Sam Howe and Robin McCarthy, from the Lady Daphne, a 101 year Sailing Vessel which until recently, resided in Charlestown Harbour.

We’ll learn how recent storm damage to the lock gate in Charlestown harbour has meant they needed to urgently relocate her, to avoid damage from the now tidal harbour.

We’ll also stop by St Austell Leisure Centre to hear about plans for a £74,000 refurbishment and events to help celebrate the centre’s fiftieth birthday.

As well as that, we ask what connects Par Beach to Sir David Attenborough? Our Community Journalist, Alex Duff, dives beneath the surface at the Destination Information Group’s art exhibit in Par, to uncover the hidden link.

We check in with People in Mind Show presenter, Zara Shoesmith, who is joined by Sam of Transformation Cornwall, who discusses the issue of social housing tenants being housed with inadequate or no floor coverings, affecting residents’ health, heating costs and overall well-being.

Last but by no means least, we’ll be asking what do the King's Shoes, the four-minute mile, and an Atlantic sailing boat have in common with Liz Fisher, chair of the Grampound with Creed Heritage Project.
